I’m Ceri Jones. I am a food educator, food writer and sometimes chef
I’ve been writing a monthly newsletter of sorts, ever since I started blogging well over a decade ago, but its been mostly hidden away each month, delivered only to subscriber inboxes. I decided to start afresh on this new platform at the beginning of 2025 so that the archive on my website could be more easily delved into, and well, so that more people can find me, my recipes and be inspired to cook more simply and seasonally!
If you’re new here, I am the author of ‘It Starts with Veg : 100 Seasonal Suppers and Sides’. This was my first cookbook, published in 2024, but I have been sharing my recipes on the internet since I started my blog back in 2011. A chef qualification followed, then 11 years working in the field of food education, and cooking for an insane number of retreats in the UK and across Europe. You can now mostly find me working 3 days a week as Food Educator at Garden Museum in London, and working on whatever other freelance gigs come my way on the other days.
I put seasonal fruit and vegetables at the centre of my recipes, choosing a piece of fruit or veg to start with and building the recipe round there. I like simple recipes because I have realised that these are always the ones people find the most useful. I love to cook, but life can be busy for all of us, can’t it?
I’m currently aiming to keep to one or two posts a month, with one of them being focussed on my words along with a new recipe, and the other more of a newsletter style round up at the end of the month. I have decided for now to keep the newsletter free for all. Substack does have the option to turn on ‘paid subscribers, but I will only activate that mode if in future I decide that I can dedicate more of my time to create additional subscriber only content to warrant it. If you’d like to support my work, the best way you can do that is to buy my book, and then buy a copy for everyone you know!
Here’s the sorts of things I'll be sharing in my posts each month;
A round-up of what I’ve been cooking this month, including a new recipe or two around a theme, and links to existing ones on my website or social media.
What’s in season for the month.
News of any cooking classes or events you can come and join me at.
For my first month of February, the theme will be tray bakes…
Thanks for sticking around!
